About me

こんにちは

= “Konnichiwa” simply means “Hello!” in Japanese.

In a few months I will – God willing – have the incredible opportunity to fly to Japan for a short-term mission trip. The purpose of this journey is – above all, but not only – to find out more about God’s wonderful plan for my life, whether He calls me into long-term mission in Japan.

Who I am:

My name is Elena Reich, born in Wuppertal, Germanyin the year 1995. Since my teenage years I have already been interested in Southeast Asia and especially Japan, and since the beginning of 2018 I feel the interest and the passion to go to Japan to become a missionary.

Why Japan?

The Lord has laid it on my heart to go to this distant and equally fascinating land, to continue to grow in my faith and to pass it on to other people. In addition, the facts speak for themselves:

In Japan, less than 1% of the population is Christian (various sources suggest only 0.4 – 0.6%).

By comparison, in South Korea, nearly 30% of the population is Christian and even in China it is estimated to be up to 6%.

In addition, the suicide rate is extremely high, especially among children and teenagers, and Japan has an overtime problem, which results, inter alia, from the cultural situation.

For example, It would be rude to leave the workplace before the boss does. Thus, many employees stay many hours longer than necessary in the office, just so as not to lose face. As a result, a 100-hour work week is not uncommon. (By the way, in Japanese there is even a term for “death caused by overwork”, Karōshi, which is pretty conclusive, I think.)

How you can help:

You can pray: For a safe flight, a blessed time in Japan, a quick settling into this very different culture, a good connection with the team members on the field, God’s guidance and wisdom for me regarding long-term mission, and that the Japanese turn to God in their despair.

Also for the financial support may be gladly prayed. Because Japan is relatively expensive, so I’m happy about any support! If everyone contributes a small part, then my maintenance and the flight costs will be covered soon.

If you are interested in supporting me, you can find more information in my “Support” section.

Also, feel free to send me a message if you have any questions, topic requests or comments.

God bless you! 🙂
